Ministry has changed along with our society over the years. Where once it was possible to allow people into any ministry without question, the presence of unhealthy and even dangerous elements within our society press all reasonable people to discern the level of access allowed to those who wish to be a ministry head, have a key to our parish, or have any association with the children of St. Mark’s.
The diocesan policies for the protection of children and youth from abuse are required reading for anyone interested in working with the youth of the parish as these policies provide comprehensive information about how this church will support our ministry to children.
Safe Church Training is required for all church employees, all volunteers who spend extended periods of time with children or youth, and all volunteers who serve at overnight events with youth.
As with any set of policies or training, the content can and does change over time necessitating continued training. As a volunteer, you must be in compliance with all policies and procedures from the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
It is important to know that with the standards outlined in these policies and procedures, the Body of Christ at St. Mark’s is stepping up the protection of our kids and those children who visit our parish.
The Safe Church training modules specifically address the following: 1) provide insight into the makeup of people who abuse children sexually, and 2) reveal the behaviors of a child who may have been abused sexually. By completing this training, we are saying to our neighborhood, “We Care About Children.”
To begin the volunteer application process, please download, fill out and return the application and release form below. By doing so, you are giving St. Mark’s permission to do any or all of the following: conduct an interview with you, check references, check sexual predator databases, and possibly check with the Department of Motor Vehicles. You are also responsible for providing references that will speak freely and candidly about your background.
